Living out in the country you accumulate animals over the years...LOTS of animals. We have had horses, goats, many dogs, and cats even chickens. I have to say that my chickens by far are the most carefree animal that I have ever owned. Meet Hay Hay she is my head hen of the coop. You may be wondering why she looks the way she does. Well, she has been through a battle as you can see. I'm not sure why but my girls (my hens) love dog food. They would eat that over anything else. So every morning once the coop is open, the first thing they do is run to the dog pen in hope that I have to drop some dog food for them to eat. Well not to long ago she got a little too close to the fence and yep you guessed it. My dog got ahold of her. She is lucky she got loose, they have killed several chickens before. They are Basset Hounds, they don't even eat the chickens; but, instinctually they have to attack them. I was walking to the house and I heard an awful scream and commotion. I immediately ran in panic to my dog pen to help free my hen. All while the other hen are just sit there waiting for their turn at the dog food!! I grabbed the first thing I saw was a loose-leaf rake. Now, seriously how is that going to break anything up? Yet, it did I grabbed my traumatized hen and nursed her to health for days. As you can see she still, after MONTHS, hasn't recovered fully. To this day she stays clear of that dog pen. haha After that, my grandkids started calling her Hay Hay. Funny thing is I have more of Hay Hay's farm adventures. Maybe I will write a children's book about Hay Hay? Leave me a comment of what you think of Hay Hay. I would love to hear your thoughts.
